GUEST BOOK

I'm sitting here at work remembering how Gene used to put a tiny line at the bottom of his documents WAY back in the day- always adding that naming convention. Always so well organized. And this was the early days of computers! I enjoyed working for Gene a short time at the Homeless Authority but knew him even longer in my other roles in the community working with the homeless. What a good man Gene was! I am happy I got to know him and truly enjoy his friendship and mentorship! You are not forgotten, Gene!

- Julie Walsh, Atlanta, GA

My thoughts and prayers are with you Betty & family. Gene was an awesome person and a wonderful mentor to me. I learned a lot from him and I continue to pass on some of the lessons he taught me to others. One of my favorite quotes of Gene's that has also been a very rewarding practice: 'Always tell the truth.'

- John Sams, Knoxville, TN

After reflecting upon Gene's accomplishments in life and his friendship as a brother-in-law for over 64 years,it occurred to me that he was a person who closely followed both the Boy Scout Oath and Law.The three promises of the Scout Oath, for example, are 1 Duty to God and Country, 2 Duty to Other people, and Duty to self. Gene was always very Helpful, Friendly,Courteous and Kind part of the Scout Law to Mary and me, and a caring Uncle to our children and grandchildren.

- George Black, Burlington,N.C., NC

Betty, Lisa & Rob, My heart goes out to you! Your father was a good man who gave much of himself to our country and his community. Like so many other nieces and nephews have said, Gene was a kind and fun-loving uncle who inspired us all. He will be missed! My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Dorie

- Dorie Combs, Richmond, KY

Uncle Gene was awesome!! I have many great childhood memories going to the beach and was amazed that he could use his karate and break bricks. He was a unique man and brought joy to everyone. Jim and are so sorry he’s gone. Love, Janet

- Janet Janda, Shelby, NC

Dear Betty and Family: Jim and I are so very sorry for your loss. You and Gene have always been so gracious to allow us to search for Marmalade all through your shrubbery and yard for 8 years! Gene had such an amazing history. We are thankful for his service to this country and for having both of you as our neighbors. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.

- Rachel George, Savannah, GA

Gene was a great uncle! Among his many gifts spiritual and otherwise was the wonderful gift of hospitality! I lost count of the number of times I visited Betty, Gene, Lisa and Robin over the years - often bringing more than one friend and family member along with me. If it was a hardship on them - they never let me know! I, too, was in on the great beach trips, boat rides, Washington tours, board-breaking lessons, bridge games .... I could go on and on! He was a wonderful and generous person and heaven is a more glorious place now... and more fun!!! Love, Cynthia and Julian

- Cynthia Dew, Columbia, SC

I have such fond memories of Uncle Gene. He always regaled us as children with stories of his time in the Army. I especially remember the time he took me out to Fort Jackson and let me have the experience of firing a machine gun blanks of course and lobbing dummy hand grenades. An exciting time for any young child. He even gave me some old Army gear, including a helmet. It's so sad to hear of Uncle Gene's passing. My heart goes out to my Aunt Betty and the rest of the family. But I am heartened knowing that he and my Dad and other members of the Lovvorn clan are together once again.

- Dixon Lovvorn, Jr., Lafayette, LA

I will miss your smile, I will miss you telling me not to bring Betty home if she didn't win at bridge. I will miss our hugs at church. You are a very special person and Heavens gain is our loss. See you again one day.

- Joy, Savannah, GA

I'm gonna miss you very much!!! Love Always

Yes, he taught me mental toughness: 'Priceless' lessons for life... I love him.. I am also Grateful for his military service!
